Check ≠ Diagnostic

There are plenty of auto parts stores that offer ‘free’ check engine light scans. But, ‘free’ diagnostics aren’t really a diagnostic. The scan tool is capable of indicating the location of the problem, but it lacks the ability to provide a precise identification. Therefore, it is advisable to have a skilled and certified automotive expert invest their time in diagnosing the actual cause behind the error code.

It’s comparable to visiting your doctor and complaining about foot pain. They measure your temperature and conclude that your high fever is likely causing the foot pain. This response doesn’t provide a definitive answer, which is why we suggest a thorough diagnosis for our customers. If your doctor acknowledges your foot pain but cannot determine the cause, it’s probable that they will recommend you to see a specialist. So, it’s kind of the same scenario. A code scan tool can tell you that there’s a problem, but it can’t tell you what it is. You have to be referred to a specialist, and that specialist is my technician
